The Streets of Madrid
One of my favorite places to explore in
Madrid is the area between Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real. It is a
bit touristy with souvenir shops and tapas bars but it's just a treat
to explore that area and find quaint courtyards where you least expect
it. What I like most about the
walk between Plaza Mayor and Palacio Real are the lovely street signs
up and down Calle Mayor. Unlike the States where we prominently
display our street names on corner posts, most street signs in Spain
are posted on the sides of buildings. It takes a few wrong turns
to become accustomed to the unusual location. And unlike our
street signs in the States, these are quite beautifully rendered in
tiles.
